Grounded Yoga Teacher Training with Pete Blackaby
Continual ongoing personal development training with various tutors

I began practising yoga in 1993, following the birth of my fourth daughter, an impending divorce and the end of my 12 year career in full time pub management. It started as a welcome relief from an over busy life, but before long became a passion and the start to a new way of life.

By 2000 yoga had become more than just a weekly class and I was attending as many classes, workshops and retreats as I could fit into my time. I was very fortunate and met in that time my main influences Gary Carter and Peter Blackaby who have remained and are currently my main source of teaching inspiration.

I was encouraged by my a local tutor to train as a teacher and I qualified with the BWY in 2004, and quickly developed into having a teaching week of 12-18 classes.

I now teach yoga as a full time occupation along with running my yoga studio Yoga for Harmony in Windsor which I established in 2006. I currently teach at my studio 5 to 6 times a week, as well as at other private venues, corporate classes, one to ones with specialist needs in students homes or in the studio.

With early origins in Iyengar Yoga, I have experienced a wide range of teachers and yoga ‘styles’, and continue to be interested in furthering my own knowledge and experience so that I can pass on those experiences to my students. My yoga today has become an evolution of over 20 years of practice and study. My aim is to help bring back and maintain balance into my student’s mind, body and lifestyle. My interest is in working with traditional postures, but with the view to ‘showing’ the body a useful pattern of movement, which may have got forgotten in the busyness of life; one which is natural to its developmental history to bring the body within a range of ‘normal’ for the students as an individual.

I believe that with an ‘attentive’ approach to the movements and postures, as well as attention to the breath, the whole body and mind can be brought to a state of balance, and lead the student on the path to a state of well being that can take them through young, middle and old age.

It is about how good we become a ‘performing’ a posture, perhaps moving away from ‘external’ evaluation of the postures and moving towards an ‘internal’ sense of the postures. My approach could be seen as moving away from the more used traditional systemised yoga, to an experiential approach; moving toward being comfortable in our physical and mental selves and experiencing how yoga can help us to achieve this potential.

My intention for my classes are for students to have the opportunity and the time to look at aspects of their practise in depth and to develop an approach of self enquiry and self knowledge. The classes are adaptable and encompass students of all levels of experience and ability. Whilst looking at traditional Hatha Yoga postures and pranayamas I like to encourage fun and freedom, and above all to enjoy yoga.

Where and when I teach:

I teach nearly all my classes at my studio ‘Yoga for Harmony’ in Windsor.

Most classes are 'hybrid' - on-line via 'Zoom' and simultaneously in-person.
You will need to pre-book these classes.

The essence of the way I teach is to help people reconnect with their bodies, to become strong and resilient physically, mentally and spiritually, to bring people back to their ability to play, to have fun in their practice as well as find a deeper sense of purpose and insight, to smile inside and outside, to remember how to be kind & compassionate to themselves and ultimately to find ease of being”.

As well as teaching Yoga Ali runs Mindfulness courses to help people to manage stress and build resilience. Her courses are based on CBT approaches. Ali has worked with individuals, groups, university students & staff, a private mental health clinic as well as businesses and corporate clients. She works with a wide range of students from young adults to people up into their 90’s.

Ali believes that through creating a safe space for learning and exploration and meeting ourselves where we are, we can experience meaningful and powerful shifts in mind, body and spirit, on and off the yoga mat.

Ali’s background in the creative industry influences her yoga teaching and every class will be different. She draws from elements of her 30+ years love of Hatha Yoga, to elements of easy Flow, to Restorative practice, and Yoga Nidra. Her classes will stretch you & help you to relax & restore.

Ali’s classes are all inclusive and have a “leaning in” to her passion for the transformative effects of Mindfulness and Neuroscience. Ali’s teaching is all about encouraging students to bring and work with ALL parts of themselves, those parts that feel easier and more spacious as well as those that perhaps feel more uncomfortable and stuck. We all want (& need) to find ease of being…I’d love to help you to find yours.

Sarah Norman

Area of Expertise: Flow Yoga
Email: sarah@yoga-grove.com | Phone: 07986 960 565
I have been practising yoga for over 25 years and it has held an important place in my life, connecting me back to myself throughout all of life’s adventures. It was this deepening connection and desire for a greater understanding of this wonderful practise that led me to do my teacher training with British Wheel of Yoga from which I qualified 2020.

I have particular interest in the benefits of breath-work and I incorporate it into all of my practises, encouraging students to explore the capabilities and benefits of their breath. My classes are a combination flowing movement, breath and meditation, drawing on the many different disciplines I
have studied and practised.

I also hold Yoga Nidra classes, it is a true joy to experience the benefits my students feel after they have attended one of our sessions and these only increase with regular practise as the brain attunes to that space.
Classes are accessible to all, from beginners and beyond, engaging with different themes to encourage students to explore, challenge and connect with themselves and their practise.

I hope that there are always elements of a class that students can take back with them into their lives, play with and practise.

The path trodden as a yogi may not always seem clear, however practise has shown me that I understand myself in the truest sense when I am held in that union of body, mind and breath.

I love being able to share this with people, to create positive, supportive energy and community within my classes.

Ashley Bowes

Area of Expertise: Hatha Yoga / Restorative Yoga
I have been practising yoga for around ten years and experienced range of different styles from Iyengar, to Vinyasa Flow, to Integral yoga, to Scaravelli inspired styles.

I have always returned to hatha, this being the style that reminds me again and again of who I am, who I want to be and how I want to feel and flourish, both on the mat and off. It is by grounding, centering, moving in a bi-mechanically sound way and being accepting of my limitations and appreciative of my abilities, by calming my mind and remembering my breath that I can move through the world happily and peacefully with a sound body and mind.

Over the past few years my yoga practice and studies have evolved away from the ancient Hindu texts which I have found to be somewhat inaccessible and irrelevant to my modern, Western experience and moved towards a preference of examining modern neuroscience, psychology and humanist philosophy, bringing a broader context with which to explore the human condition and all the inherent ups and downs therein.
I seek to understand yoga from the perspective of the modern world in which I live, to be forward looking and develop a useful criteria on which to found a useful yoga practice I believe that it is important to frame modern day yoga in a meaningful context to avoid it becoming simply another exercise regime and recognizing the true importance of human health and flourishing encouraged by and through the practice of yoga.

I forever remain a student of yoga and am currently a participant of Pete Blackaby’s 18 month Grounded Yoga course as well as being an attendant of many Gary Carter workshops as well as Monica Voss, Zoe Knott, John Stirk and a host of other marvellous teachers.

I have a 200hr Yoga Alliance qualification which I completed in 2012. I also trained with CAM Yoga which was a combined qualification of Yoga Alliance (500hr) and British Wheel of Yoga (500hr) which I completed in 2014.

Caroline Brindle (Chatterton)

Area of Expertise: Inspired by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, Hatha Yoga / BeginnersYoga / Pregnancy Yoga / Postnatal Yoga
The style of Yoga I teach is a non-competitive form of Hatha Yoga – the Yoga of movement. The practise can facilitate releases on all levels, creating a sense of space and freedom within. This can lead to a less stressed body/mind, good health and improved posture. The Yoga practise is primarily interested in freeing the breath and spine together with a sense of grounding or yielding to the earth. Focusing on the breath together with an attentive, inquisitive mind, allows you to be kind to yourself and listen to your body’s needs, allowing you to become your own teacher. My classes are suitable for all levels of experience from beginner to the more experienced student.
About me

I started practising Iyengar Yoga in 1997 when I lived in South Africa. The reason I wanted to try Yoga was to ‘stretch’ as a counter balance to training in the gym, and ‘de-stress’ from my work life as a computer programmer. I’ve been teaching Yoga since 2002 and qualified with the British Wheel of Yoga.

I moved to Windsor in 1998 and was fortunate enough to attend workshops with Peter Blackaby and Gary Carter. I went on to do another Teacher Training with Gary Carter at his studio Natural Bodies.

Over the years I have worked with a numerous teachers inspired by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli; I continue my personal practise along these lines.
Qualifications

British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Diploma (60hr) – 2002
British Wheel of Yoga Diploma (500hr teacher training course) – 2002 to 2005
Natural Bodies Diploma (350hr teacher training course) – 2004 to 2006
YogaBirth (300hr pregnancy and birth teacher training course) – 2017 to 2018

Sarah Bonner

Area of Expertise: Mindfullness / Yoga Flow / Reiki Healing

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/yujayoga

The first yoga class I attended was in 2007. I loved the feeling of calm that fell over me and the fact that I wasn’t ‘just moving’ but also connecting to my breath. For 10 years I dipped in and out of classes, trying different types of yoga and experimenting with my practice.

In 2016 I had my second child and was quickly diagnosed with post-natal depression. I had never felt this way before; it was like I was seeing the world through dark glasses, nothing brought me joy and it became normal for me to feel empty, devoid of any emotion with daily thoughts of what it would be like if my life came to an end. I started anti-depressants but wanted to help myself in other more ‘natural’ ways, and that’s where my daily yoga practice came in. Yoga helped me when I was in a dark place. I was returning home to my inner temple, my breath, the incredible body that had birthed two strong babies.

It was at this point that I wanted to give back. I wanted others to feel what I felt after I had finished a yoga class; I felt like I had accomplished something huge and magnificent every time! I enrolled on to a RYS 200hr teaching training with Samara Yoga School, run by my incredible teacher, Sam Mills.

My personal practice has changed a lot over the last couple of years. I don’t step on to my mat every day but practice in other ways. Sitting with the stillness of the present moment, being in nature, standing in tree pose while I chop vegetables, or chanting a mantra while driving. This year I completed my Second Degree Reiki training which has strengthened my bond with the Divine, the powerful life force energy that sits within each and every one of us.

David Moseley

Area of Expertise: Tai Chi
David met his first teacher Quincy Rabot while studying for his Master’s Degree in 1984. With Quincy he studied Tai Chi, Hsing Yi and Ba Gua, the three arts of the nei jia or internal school of Chinese martial arts, and Quincy continues to mentor him over thirty-five years later.

David has since developed his studies with several other internationally respected teachers – including Yang Jwing Ming, Peter Ralston, B. K. Frantzis, and Dr. Xie Pei Qi of Beijing. Since 1988, David has offered courses in colleges, health clubs, clinics and companies, as well as teaching and coaching his own students.
David is an Advanced Level Instructor member of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain. He is inspired by seeing the unfolding of his students’ natural potential in the practice of Tai Chi. This can bring enhanced health, martial and other skill, and in time leads to a sense of connection with the natural environment and the universal energies around us.

Because of this, David has now given his Tai Chi work the name Ziran Bodymind Arts. Ziran is a Chinese word that expresses naturalness in being and moving, attained through the practice of the Chinese internal arts.

Deborah Le Vene-Page

Area of Expertise: Align and Flow Yoga.
Deborah originally trained as a professional dancer with the London School of Contemporary Dance. She then later evolved from dance to yoga when she discovered that yoga had an extremely calming and centring influence, particularly through difficult times.

She has been practicing yoga for many years and qualified as a teacher in 2005 with Friends of Yoga International (FRYOG). She teaches with grace, warmth and a good sense of humour, drawing on her experience of different styles and practices studied with many international senior yoga teachers in London and overseas.
Coming from a dance background, Deborah is particularly inspired by a more dynamic style of practice and her main influences are Hatha Vinyasa Flow Yoga, and the sophisticated alignment principles and heart orientated philosophy of Anusara Yoga.

Deborah completed in March 2013 the Yoga Alliance Accredited 200 hours Anusara Teacher Training programme with Bridget Woods-Kramer.

Deborah enjoys helping others to realise the benefits of yoga and aims to guide her students to find freedom, flexibility and strength in the body with a sense of peace, harmony and joy.

Tanya Alevropoulos

Area of Expertise: Sound Healing / Reiki
I became interested in Sound healing after I read Sarah Auster’s book ‘Sound Bath’. Having been a school teacher for over 30 years, and having had a number of personal losses, I developed anxiety and depression. Yoga, tai chi, chi gong, meditation and mindfulness all played a huge part in helping me regain my footing and I considered training to teach them so that I could help others.

But ultimately it was my love of music that led me on to the next phase of my journey.

I believe in the huge power of music, it allows us to heal by taking us away from our daily worries and stresses and entering a different realm.

I trained with the College of Sound Healing and qualified as a Crystal Bowl and Himalayan Bowl Sound Healing Practitioner in March 2022.

In December 2022, I qualified as a Reiki level 2 practitioner. I use Reiki energy in all my sound healing, it has enabled me to take it to a new level.

If you are curious at all about sound healing and/or reiki, please do get in touch. Better still, come along to the monthly sound bath or arrange a private session with me in the Yoga for Harmony Therapy Room.

Sound Healing is not a new concept, it dates back many thousands of years, where traditional societies would use sound from instruments including the voice as part of meditations and rituals, but the current format has been developed to suit our 21st century lifestyles. I, like many sound healers use crystal bowls, Himalayan bowls, and a wind gong as well as tingshas and other percussion instruments.

The invitation in the sound bath is that participants come, lie down and rest while the instruments are played. The sound vibrations gently ease their body and mind to a relaxed, stress-free state, allowing the body’s natural healing system to switch on.

The sound healing practice that I follow includes theories dating back 2-3,000 years, as recorded in the Hindu texts The Vedas. I was taught that as well as a physical body, we have an energetic body and our chakras (energy centres) can become out of balance or blocked when we experience stress, challenging emotions and/or trauma. This can then result in mental and physical illnesses. The different vibrations produced by the instruments can return our chakras to their balanced state which can then allow our minds and bodies to heal.

Ruth Slater

Area of Expertise: Yin Yoga
Ruth has been practising yoga for over 25 years and enjoys participating in a diverse range of yoga and movement practices.

After yoga supported her recovery through a major illness in 2017, Ruth decided to train as a teacher to share her experiences of the recuperative power of yoga with others.

She is qualified to teach Hatha, Yin and Vinyasa flow. Ruth is passionate about sharing yoga with all ages (although her 10 year old daughter says she still prefers gymnastics!), and is certified to teach adults, teenagers and children from age three and up. She regularly provides voluntary yoga classes to a number of charities across the UK.
Ruth says: “Yoga helped me to recover my physical body and my mind after several months of illness and draining medical treatments. Some days my practice was just to be able to come to my mat and breathe. But yoga (as well as my wonderful yoga and pilates teachers – thank you) held my hand and led me back to strength, life and vitality. Today I get to come to my yoga mat to celebrate the simple joy of movement.”

In Ruth’s classes she likes to combine a flow of yin and yang asanas that will rejuvenate the body and nourish the mind. Integrating with breathing (pranayama), meditation and deep relaxation to balance your physical energy and create a truly restorative practice.

Susan Bett

Area of Expertise: Vinyasa Flow / Yin Yoga / Menopause Yoga
By day I work for an airline so over the last 25 years I have been lucky enough to travel the world and experience Yoga classes in many different countries. It started as a way of keeping fit whilst I was away from home but before long I realised I was sleeping better, more focused and stronger. Now my Yoga mat is in my bag every time I go to work so that I can continue to practice from my hotel room or local studio. I also now teach Yoga via Zoom from various locations around the world, hence my moniker “The Travelling Yogi”.

In 2009 I took an Ashtanga Yoga teacher training with Michael Gannon and in 2020 I took a second 200hour Teacher Training with Julie Monague in Vinyasa Flow. In 2020 I added to my qualifications with a 40-hour Yin Yoga course, followed by Menopause Yoga™ in 2021. I also undertook Breath Coach training and Science of Stretching training as well as qualifying as a CMA registered Wellness Coach and Nutrition Coach.
I love teaching my favourite styles of Yoga – Vinyasa Flow and Yin – to beginners and experienced students alike, helping them to feel the benefits of a regular Yoga practice. I am also passionate about leading Menopause Yoga™ classes and helping people navigate midlife using a holistic approach.

Chetna Menon

Area of Expertise: Hatha yoga/Beginners Yoga/Pranayama.
"Growing up in India, there was always 'exposure' to yoga. However, I took up the practice earnestly in 2009 while expecting our first child. After more than a decade of practice, I completed my first teachers training in 2022 from the Yoga Institute, Mumbai and followed that up by a training in Hatha Yoga from Mysore. I am currently a student of Jason Crandell and continue to learn more about this incredible practice under his expert guidance.
I love working with beginners, focussing on the minutest details and prioritising aspects of asana practice that are immediately accessible yet help build the foundation for a long term practice. I like to incorporate breathwork in my classes. I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of this wonderful tradition".
